I heard about this temple recently.So decided to visit this temple when i went to Thiruvallur to worship Sri Vaidya Veeraraghava Perumal.It took about 1 hr 10 mins from Thiruvallur to reach here.More about Thiruvallur temple can be found -->
The day before my temple visit i browsed the net ,checked with few people and collected few information about the temple timings.I went on a Sunday and we started from Thiruvallur at 10.40 am.It was around 11.55 am by the time we entered the temple.
Before entering the temple we bought flower garland,few prathimai(small carvings of body parts and other items like book,house etc that we offer to God believing he will answer us prayers and relieve us from our sufferings).
The sthala purana(ancient history) of the temple states that Lava and Kusa, the sons of Rama lived in this place. Once when Rama was passing this place, they had a war with Rama himself without knowing that he was their father. As the young children waged a war here, the place was called as Siruvar Por Puri. (Siruvar means children, Por Puri means waging a war, in Tamil).
Lord Muruga here is called Sri Balasubramanyar and is said to be granting the wishes of devotees. This temple also has idols of Sri Annamalaiyar (Lord Shiva) and Sri Unnamulai Amman. The utsava moorthy of Lord Muruga is seen as Valli Manalar in a wedding posture with Śrī Valli. Lord Muruga is believed to grant wishes for those intend to buy or construct a house in this temple.
Peacock which is the vehicle of Lord Muruga is made of precious stone "Maragtham"(known as Emerald in English) in this temple.
There are separate sannadhis for Uthsavar, Adhi Moolavar and Lord Muruga and Valli in wedding posture. Archanai is done only in the Adhi Moolavar sannadhi.
Since its believed that Lord Muruga grants all the wishes of devotees, people tie cradle to the temple tree praying for children,they pile up few bricks/stones that are kept there praying for buying a new house.
As it was a weekend and many married women carried milk pots,it was heavily crowded.So we bought Rs50/- entrance ticket
Temple Timings:
Monday to Saturday 7 am to 12 pm
4.30 pm to 8 pm
Tuesday 4.30 am to 11 pm (Full day )
Sunday 6 am to 1 pm
4 pm to 8 pm
Looks like the temple will be crowded on Sundays,Tuesdays,if its Kiruthika nakshatram.
